Benjamin Loran “Benny” Dowell, 91 of Lusby, MD formerly of Solomons, MD passed away on April 8, 2011 at Calvert Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 23, 1919 in Olivet, MD to the late Loran Lee and Pearl Langley Dowell. He was the loving husband to Teresa Catherine Dowell whom he married in 1940 and preceded him in death on April 20, 1998. Benny was in the Army Air Corp, serving during WWII and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service. He went onto become and Electrician for NOLTF / Pax River and retired in 1975 after 30 years of service. Benny was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 274, serving twice as the commander and once as the chaplain. He was dedicated to helping family, friends, and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Calvin Dowell, George Dowell, Eva Dowell, and Mary Ann Dowell. Benny is survived by his children, Robert Dowell and wife Dyane of Salisbury, MD, and Cathy Dowell Brooks of Loveville, MD; sister, Juanita Dowell of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 6 ~ 7:30 PM in the Rausch Funeral Home, Lusby, MD where a funeral service will be held at 7:30 PM with the American Legion Post 274 officiating. Interment will be private.
