Joseph E. Bateman, 85, of St. Leonard, MD passed away September 5, 2011 in Washington Hospital Center. He was born on January 13, 1926 in Washington DC to the late Joseph E. and Mildred Rhine Bateman. Mr. Bateman served in the Navy during WWII and retired from the Maryland National Capitol Park and Planning Commission where he worked as a painter.
He is survived by his wife, Alice E. Bateman of St. Leonard, MD, father of Cheryl Moore of Greenbelt, MD, Joseph E. Bateman, Jr. of Lusby, MD and Eva Alhambra of Lusby, MD. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday September 14, 2011 at the Rausch Funeral Home, PA, 4405 Broomes Island Road, Port Republic, MD from 11-12 Noon where services will follow at 12 Noon. Interment will be 2 PM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
