Douglas M. Barnes, 69, of Warsaw, VA formally of Broomes Island, MD., passed away suddenly on December 13, 2011 at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital. He was born on May 29, 1942 in Broomes Island Md. to the late Elizabeth Luber and Levi Barnes. Besides his parents, Dougie is also predeceased by brothers, William, Perry and Timmy Barnes. He served in the Navy from 1961 to 1966 when he was honorably discharged. He retired from PEPECO after 31 years of service and moved to Virginia. He was a master wood crafter and spent many hours working on all kinds of wood projects.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Barnes of Warsaw, VA, father of Steven Barnes of Bailey, NC, Tracy Barnes of Stafford, VA., and Bradley Higgins of Davie FL. Grandfather of Bryan Barnes, and Kevin Barnes both of Warsaw, VA. and Samantha Wright of Stafford VA. He is also survived by sisters, Gloria Yates of Broomes Island, MD., Carolyn Parker of St. Leonard, MD, Linda Lanzisera of Broomes Island, MD., Sandy Button, of St. Leonard, MD, and brother David Barrett of St. Leonard, MD.
The family will revive friends on Friday December 16, 2011 from 5-8 PM at the Rausch Funeral Home, 4405 Broomes Island Rd. , Port Republic, MD where services will be held on Saturday December 17, 2011 at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Broomes Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House 2330 Monument Avenue, Richmond, VA 23220 USA
